ICD 10 - L03
Also known as gynoid lipodystrophy, cellulite is the accumulation of fat beneath the skin, giving it a dimpled and lumpy appearance, especially on the thighs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen. It is an aesthetic issue with no health consequences.
The main symptom of cellulite is the appearance of a fatty layer that creates dimples on the thighs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen.
The causes of cellulite are not fully understood, but genetic factors, circulatory problems, hormonal changes, sedentary lifestyle, weight gain, and poor diet contribute to its development.
Cellulite is diagnosed by observing the affected areas of the body. It is important to note that this condition is not a disease.
To prevent or reduce cellulite, it is recommended to drink plenty of water, reduce sodium and fatty food intake, avoid smoking, and engage in physical activity.
Weight loss and physical exercise help relieve cellulite. Laser and radiofrequency devices may be recommended by healthcare professionals, as well as retinol creams.
It is difficult for cellulite to disappear completely. Generally, there is a reduction after starting treatment, but it may return if there are no changes in eating and exercise habits.
Cellulite is not contagious.
Cellulite can appear in different areas of the body over time.
