What is kleptomania?

Kleptomania is a disorder characterized by an intense impulse to steal.

Symptoms

In kleptomania, the stolen items are usually unnecessary and have little material value. The focus is on the act of stealing/shoplifting, even when the consequences may include job loss and potential legal issues, for example. Prevention Method

It is difficult to prevent kleptomania. Combining good psychological support with activities that promote well-being can help.

Treatment

There is no cure for kleptomania, but treatment with psychotherapy and medication can help stop or reduce the compulsion to steal.

Duration

Kleptomania has no cure, but its manifestations can be controlled with treatment.

Is it contagious?

Kleptomania is not contagious.

Can it be contracted more than once?

Since there is no cure, kleptomania is only diagnosed once.
